Halle Bailey, one half of duo Chloe x Halle, performed as a soloist for the first time during Disney World’s 50th Anniversary special on ABC. Halle, who is starring as Ariel in the remake of The Little Mermaid, performed Can You Feel The Love Tonight. I certainly felt it.
From the opening shot, the scene was magical — as any Disney scene should be. I got chills as I witnessed a black woman with dreadlocks beautifully sing a classic Disney song in this setting. That moment served as tangible evidence of a progressive evolution of inclusive representation. I was proud to see Halle in such a beautiful, classic setting performing with such regality.
Her face was beautiful with simple make-up.
Her diamond ring was flawless.
Her black dress was fit for the queen she is.
All of this as she elegantly stood and flawlessly performed the song while surrounded by a world-class orchestra in front of the Disney World castle.
It was truly a moment…not a magical moment, but a real, unforgettable moment.
