Shopping for Toiletries and Household Items Makes Me Feel Good

I recall watching my mom run errands when I was a little girl. I enjoyed riding shotgun and observing her banking at the drive-thru, buying groceries, and going to the post office. Now, that I’m older, I realize those errands symbolized responsibility and leadership. So, upon graduating from high school, when it was time to deposit the checks given to me as gifts and purchase the items needed for my dorm room, I had my first experience with that same responsibility and leadership. I felt accomplished, proud, and satisfied as I selected coordinating linens, toiletries, and school supplies. I felt warm inside and happy.

The shopping trip before college was a step toward a new life, and I believe it may be the reason why I enjoy a trip to the store for toiletries and household items. Perhaps, that moment was so important for me that what I’m about to describe to you are feelings of nostalgia.

I feel good buying things that I need to take care of my body and my home. I don’t overindulge, and I typically buy the same things over and over because I do my research, find what works, and stick to it. I just find relaxation and happiness in buying the items I need.

The experience is intensified when the store is clean, stocked, organized, and not too crowded. I feel a sense of community when I see…
