Ignoring Red Flags Early Leads To White Flags Later
A Twitter friend recently posted that their God child’s teacher has a Confederate flag on her desk. My recommendation was to remove the (black) child from the class. Here’s why.
The U.S. is highly sensitive right now due to various concerns — from armyworms to COVID. It is not the time to ignore red flags or, in this case, a red Confederate flag during the ongoing epidemic of a skin-tone “virus” during the ongoing pandemic of an airborne virus.
I ignored red flags at work with a white woman who turned out to be Karen 2.0. The red flags were there, and I tried to fix our situation with leadership intervention. I had an opportunity to take another progressive position, but chose to stay to remain committed to the mission. She eventually affected my comfort level at work and my mental health outside of work so much that I threw in the white flag and left the organization all together.
I ignored red flags at the beginning of a romantic relationship, thinking his inability to communicate during tough times was cute. As our relationship progressed, his cute inability to communicate became him walking out the door when he just didn’t have the skills and ability to have crucial conversations in critical times.
