I Received One Gift for My Birthday

Why Can’t a Single, Professional Woman Get a Gift?

I recently celebrated my birthday. I am grateful for another year, especially during the times we live in. I am thankful for life, great health, and a loving family.

I spent the day enjoying the flowers I bought myself and pushing out a couple of passion projects. I thought my birthday was a great day to birth some of the dreams I had been delaying.

The typical people always remember my birthday and text me — my parents, siblings, and aunts.

Last year, I was surprised by a few people who remembered my birthday, including a church member and a couple of guys who provided company over the phone during quarantine.

I do not post my birthday on social media for security reasons. I feel that if you care about me, you’ll inquire or remember without having a social media reminder.

This year, I text people who should know my birthday but do not or do not remember.

I sent about ten people a text, letting them know it was my birthday, and provided my Cash App if they were “so inclined to gift me on this day.” Though I told them how old I am, I did not specify an amount, which could serve as a reference. I asked for cash gifts because I am currently
