Everyone May Not Be Who They Claim To Be

I have an ex-friend (older, Black man) who prides himself on being a great father to his sons, an in-demand mentor, and generous giver to a needy family every Christmas.

This same ex-friend told me how he cheated on his ex-wife with the God Mother of their sons and brags about how he now has multiple women in his life while maintaining a steady woman. He had the nerve to tell me one day that his ex-wife asked him about getting back together and he said, “you decided to let all this go.” Really? YOU cheated (and mind you, she doesn’t know about his affair with the God Mother of their children…).

So, in essence, this man presents himself as a really nice, generous guy but is dishonest, and as I will explain, he is very entitled.

This guy keeps a warm, unbothered personality at work. He pushes paper to big-wigs and thinks he’s the only person that can do the job. When time to submit his application package, he bragged that his work is so confidential he can’t put it in writing, and I insisted we all have that kind of work, but we learn how to get around the confidentiality to state the impact of our work on the overall organization. He sat back thinking the good ‘ol boy network would promote him and I told him, “you are the very reason we have this promotion process in place. So people like you don’t get promoted over people…
