The BET Awards Show Creates the Biggest (Virtual) Black Family Reunion Ever
Culture’s Biggest Night Brings Black Twitter Together Like No Other
We all have our favorite tv shows that we love to watch. Most of those shows are weekly, but annual shows like the Super Bowl or an awards show add an additional excitement and energy because these momentous shows only come around once a year. The BET Awards show is #ThatShow. It is indeed culture’s biggest night. (I love that BET did not say “black culture,” but just “culture.” We (black people) are the culture. We shape it and influence it whether mainstream recognizes and acknowledges it or not.)
Every year, we look forward to the BET Awards show because it is a night of black excellence in music, film, sports, and philanthropy. We witness the year’s most influential black entertainers light up the stage with iconic performances, compete for trophies, and wear the hottest fashions. (Did you all notice most of the women wore white last night?)
Another fun trait of the BET Awards show is that we never know who BET may dig up for a nostalgic performance or tribute to an honoree.
Then there are those moments of the live show when someone goes off script or BET comes back too soon from commercial, and the host or teleprompter is not ready. I will never forget the latter…
