Can We Stop with the Glorified Social Media Posts?
Every holiday or milestone day, I see these posts and they irk the hell outta me. They read something like this:
“To the best <insert title> ever! You taught me how to love and you always give your all — no matter what. You are my rock. Happy <insert holiday> to you! I hope you have an amazing day!
“On Siblings Day, I want to shout out my <insert sibling>. You know I got your back, and I won’t let anyone hurt you! #WhenYouSeeHerYouSeeMe
“I am going to miss you, Grandma. You were my best friend and I was yours….”
I have experienced all three of these. Let’s go down the list, shall we?
Lying About the Dynamics of a Relationship
The issue here is the writer’s behavior and post don’t correlate.
I heard a relative tell someone I was their “rock,” and it irked me because the relative was just arguing with me on an important matter earlier that day. The relative never told me I was their rock, nor had they shown me respect with a listening ear earlier that day. The relative wanted to make everything look so perfect in front of others, but didn’t offer those same words or respect to me.
